Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken approximately 4-5 lbs
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 whole lemon cut in half
  • Fresh herbs such as rosemary or thyme for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Pat the whole chicken dry with paper towels.
  • Combine olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, dried thyme, sea salt, and black pepper in a bowl to create a spice rub.
  • Apply the spice mixture all over the chicken, including under the skin and inside the cavity.
  • Squeeze juice from one half of the lemon over the chicken and place both halves inside the cavity.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (180°C) for 5 minutes.
  • Place the chicken in the air fryer basket, breast side down, and cook for 30 minutes.
  • Flip the chicken over so the breast side is up and cook for an additional 25-30 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  • Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
