Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably seasoned)

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1/2 cup ketchup

1 cup beef broth

2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)

1 tsp dried thyme

2 cups mashed potatoes (prepared or instant)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onions, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until everything is well combined.

Shape the beef mixture into 4 oval patties and place them in a greased baking dish.

In a separate bowl, mix the ketchup, beef broth, and dried thyme. Pour this mixture over the patties in the baking dish.

Scatter the frozen mixed vegetables around the patties, making sure they are evenly distributed.

Prepare the mashed potatoes according to package instructions (if using instant) or make them from scratch, and spread an even layer over the patties and vegetables.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the mashed potatoes are slightly golden on top.

Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your hearty Amish Hamburger Steak Bake!
