Ingredients

1 loaf of thick bread (like Texas toast or challah)

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk (or your choice of milk)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for coating)

Cooking spray or melted butter (for baking sheet)

Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut the loaf of bread into thick strips, about 1 inch wide, creating French toast sticks. Set aside.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Coat the Bread Sticks: Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, allowing them to soak for a few seconds on each side for maximum flavor. Then, coat each stick in all-purpose flour lightly, shaking off any excess.

Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease with cooking spray or melted butter.

Bake: Place the coated French toast sticks on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and firm to the touch.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm with maple syrup, a dusting of powdered sugar, or fresh fruit on the side.
