Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried green or brown lentils
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley finely chopped
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup shredded cheese
  • for frying oil

Instructions

  • Cook the lentils with turmeric, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper in water until tender, then drain and cool.
  • In a bowl, mix the cooked lentils, onion, garlic, parsley, and flour, mashing lightly.
  • Take a tablespoon of the mixture, flatten it, add cheese, and encase it to form a ball.
  • Heat oil in a skillet until shimmering.
  • Fry the lentil balls in batches for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve warm with yogurt sauce or your favorite dip.
