Ingredients

6 cups day-old brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

4 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, for greasing the baking dish

Powdered sugar, for dusting

Caramel sauce, for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with unsalted butter.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and salt until smooth and well combined.

Add the bread cubes to the bowl with the custard mixture, ensuring each piece is thoroughly coated. If using, fold in the raisins or dried cranberries.

Let the bread mixture sit for 15–20 minutes, allowing the bread to absorb the custard.

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 45–55 minutes, or until the pudding is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. The top should be golden and slightly crispy.

Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes.

Dust the top with powdered sugar and drizzle with caramel sauce before serving, if desired. Cut into squares and enjoy warm!
