Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • ½ cup whole milk warmed
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar optional

Instructions

  • Activate the yeast by combining warm milk and active dry yeast in a small bowl and letting it sit until frothy.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Create a well and add melted butter, egg, vanilla, and yeast mixture. Stir to form a soft dough.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  • Mix brown sugar with an additional teaspoon of cinnamon for the filling.
  • Roll the risen dough into a 12x18 inch rectangle, spread softened butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 pieces. Twist each piece and place upright in a greased muffin tin.
  • Cover the muffin tin and let the cruffins rise for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the cruffins for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool slightly, then toss in a mixture of granulated sugar and cinnamon. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
