2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

3/4 cup milk

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as pecans or walnuts)

1 egg (for egg wash)

Powdered sugar (for drizzling)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.

    Make the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the cold butter and rub it into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.

      Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

        Roll Out the Dough: On a floured surface, gently knead the dough a few times until it comes together. Roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.

          Prepare the Cinnamon Filling: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chopped nuts (if using). Spread this mixture evenly over the dough rectangle.

            Roll the Dough: Starting from one edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch the seams to seal and place seam-side down.

              Slice and Arrange: Cut the rolled dough into 1-inch thick slices. Arrange the slices on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them.

                Prepare for Baking: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the tops of the swirls for a golden finish.

                  Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the swirls are golden brown.

                    Cool and Drizzle: Allow to cool slightly before drizzling with powdered sugar. You can mix powdered sugar with a little milk and vanilla for a simple glaze.
