Ingredients

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic. Cook until browned and onion is translucent.
  • Pour in marinara sauce and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • In a bowl, blend ricotta cheese, egg, basil, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • Spread a layer of meat sauce in a baking dish, then layer 3 noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, half of the meat sauce, and a third of the mozzarella.
  • Repeat the layering process with another 3 noodles, remaining ricotta, remaining meat sauce, and another third of mozzarella.
  • Top with the last 3 noodles, remaining meat sauce, and sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and all of the Parmesan.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  • Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing to serve.
