Ingredients

8 ounces elbow macaroni

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups whole milk

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

1 cup lump crab meat (fresh or canned)

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

1/2 cup panko bread crumbs

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Make the Cheese Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour, cooking for 1–2 minutes until it forms a roux and is lightly golden.

Add Milk: Slowly whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook while whisking until the mixture thickens and begins to simmer, about 5 minutes.

Cheese Time: Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar and Gruyère cheeses until melted and smooth. Then, add in the Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste.

Combine: Add the cooked macaroni and crab meat to the cheese sauce, stirring gently to combine.

Prepare for Baking: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the macaroni mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Topping: In a small bowl, mix the panko bread crumbs with olive oil. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the mac and cheese.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving. Enjoy!
