Ingredients

For the Donuts:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup whole milk, warmed

2 large eggs

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 tsp vanilla extract

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Cream Filling:

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

For Dusting:

1/4 cup powdered sugar

Optional: 1/2 tsp cinnamon for extra flavor

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a separate large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, softened butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape the Donuts: After rising, punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter (or two round cutters of different sizes) to cut out your donuts. Place them on a floured baking sheet and allow to rise again for about 30 minutes.

Fry the Donuts: In a deep fryer or heavy pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop the donuts in batches, frying for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Prepare the Cream Filling: In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until it starts to thicken. Gradually add in powdered sugar and vanilla extract, whipping until stiff peaks form.

Fill the Donuts: Use a piping bag fitted with a round tip to fill each donut with whipped cream filling. Push the tip into the side of the donut and squeeze gently. Repeat with all donuts.

Dust the Donuts: Once filled, dust the donuts lightly with powdered sugar (and cinnamon, if using) for a sweet finishing touch.

Serve: Enjoy your cream-filled donuts fresh, with a cup of coffee or tea!
