Ingredients

1 lb chicken breast, cut into strips

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (Panko for extra crunch)

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

Cooking oil (for frying)

Instructions

Begin by marinating the chicken strips in buttermilk. In a bowl, combine the chicken strips and buttermilk, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for the best flavor).

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and allow excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring they are thoroughly coated. For an extra crispy layer, dip them back into the buttermilk and re-coat with the flour mixture again.

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 1 inch of cooking oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of the chicken coating into it; if it sizzles, it’s ready.

Carefully add the chicken strips in batches to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 4-6 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).

Use a slotted spoon to remove the chicken strips from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serve the crispy chicken strips hot with your favorite dipping sauces, such as honey mustard, ranch, or barbecue.
