Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 24 oz jar of marinara sauce
  • 15 oz container of ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 oz spaghetti noodles uncooked
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef or Italian sausage until browned, then drain excess fat.
  • Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine marinara sauce, ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  • In the crockpot, spread a layer of the cooked meat mixture on the bottom.
  • Add half of the uncooked spaghetti noodles, breaking them if needed, then pour half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
  • Layer with shredded mozzarella cheese, then repeat with the remaining meat mixture, spaghetti noodles, and ricotta mixture.
  • Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  • Cover and cook on low for 360 minutes or on high for 240 minutes until spaghetti is tender and cheese is melted.
  • Let the casserole rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
