  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 cups apples peeled, cored, and diced
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon for the apple mixture
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for the glaze
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk for the glaze

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, mix melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring gently until just mixed.
  • In a separate bowl, toss diced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Fold the apple mixture into the batter without breaking the apples.
  • Pour half of the batter into the loaf pan, then layer half of the apple mixture.
  • Add the remaining batter and top with the rest of the apple mixture.
  • Swirl the batter and apples together gently with a knife.
  • Bake for 55-65 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  • Cool the bread for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread before serving.
