Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for layering)

1 cup warm water

2 tablespoons instant yeast

1 tablespoon milk powder (optional)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for softening the dough)

Additional butter for greasing and serving

Honey, syrup, or powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and milk powder. In a separate bowl, mix the warm water and yeast until dissolved. Allow to stand for about 5 minutes, then pour this mixture into the flour mix. Add vegetable oil.

Knead the Dough: Mix until it forms a dough. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

Let It Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Prepare the Layers: Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions (about 6-8). Roll each portion into a thin circle on a lightly floured surface. Take one circle of dough and spread a layer of softened butter on top.

Stack the Layers: Place another rolled dough circle on top of the buttered one and repeat this process for all dough portions. Once you have a stack of layers, roll the entire stack gently into a larger circular shape.

Cook the Feteer: Heat a large, non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the rolled dough in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and flaky. You may need to press it gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.

Serve: Once cooked, remove from the skillet and brush with melted butter. Serve warm with honey, syrup, or a sprinkle of powdered sugar as desired.
