Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 large egg

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Powdered sugar for dusting

Optional: chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, or whipped cream for dipping

Instructions

Prepare the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add milk and vanilla extract. Combine wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, stirring until well mixed but slightly lumpy—do not overmix.

Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or pot, pour enough oil to submerge the funnel cake bites (about 2-3 inches deep) and heat it over medium heat. To check if it’s ready, drop a small amount of batter into the oil; if it sizzles and rises, the oil is hot enough.

Create Bite-Sized Shapes: Using a piping bag or a squeeze bottle, squeeze small amounts of batter into the hot oil, forming little random shapes. Each bite should only be about 2 inches wide. Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Drain and Cool: Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the funnel cake bites from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Dust with Sugar: While the funnel cake bites are still warm, sprinkle generously with powdered sugar.

Serve: Arrange the bites on a serving plate and serve immediately with optional sauces for dipping, if desired.
