Ingredients

  • 12 pieces lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or sausage, breaking it apart as it cooks, then drain excess fat.
  • Add marinara sauce, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the meat, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9x13 inch baking dish, then layer 4 noodles over it.
  • Add half of the ricotta mixture, half of the meat sauce, and a third of the mozzarella cheese.
  • Repeat with another 4 noodles, remaining ricotta, remaining meat sauce, and another third of mozzarella.
  • Top with the last 4 noodles, remaining meat sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly.

Notes

Let the lasagna cool for a few minutes before slicing for cleaner pieces.
