Ingredients

  • 12 sheets lasagna sheets
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 medium onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 4 cups creamy béchamel sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • to taste salt
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper
  • for garnish fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, add onion and garlic, and sauté until translucent.
  • Add ground beef and pork, cooking until browned, then drain excess fat.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper; simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Boil salted water and cook lasagna sheets until al dente, then drain.
  • Layer the baking dish with meat sauce, béchamel, and lasagna sheets, repeating layers.
  • Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes.
  • Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  • Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
