Ingredients

2 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1 egg, beaten

1/2 cup milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Oil for frying

Instructions

Preparation of Apples: Start by peeling and dicing the apples into small chunks. Place them in a bowl and sprinkle a little cinnamon over them. Set aside.

Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk until well blended.

Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix together the beaten egg, milk, and vanilla extract until combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if the batter is a bit lumpy.

Fold in Apples: Gently fold in the diced apples until they are evenly distributed within the batter.

Heat Oil: In a deep frying pan or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter to see if it sizzles.

Fry Fritters: Using a spoon or a small ice cream scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry the fritters in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook each side for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Drain: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fritters and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Dust with Powdered Sugar: After cooling slightly, dust the fritters with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the apple fritters warm with honey, caramel sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce!
