Ingredients

1 large head of green cabbage

1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage

1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg, beaten

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)

1/4 cup water

Extra Parmesan cheese for topping (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Cabbage: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and gently peel off the large outer leaves. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until they are pliable. Remove and set aside to cool.

Make the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or sausage, cooked rice, grated Parmesan, parsley, minced garlic, beaten egg, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.

Assemble the Rolls: Take a cabbage leaf and place a generous spoonful of the filling at the base of the leaf. Fold the sides over the filling and then roll it up tightly, starting from the base. Repeat with all the leaves and filling.

Prepare the Sauce: In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom to prevent sticking.

Arrange the Rolls: Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the baking dish. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top and add 1/4 cup of water to ensure they stay moist during baking.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken slightly.

Serve: Carefully remove the cabbage rolls from the oven. Serve hot, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of fresh parsley if desired.
