Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1/4 cup milk (or almond milk for a dairy-free version)

2 tablespoons culinary-grade matcha powder

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)

2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (for frosting)

1 tablespoon milk (for frosting)

Extra matcha powder for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, matcha powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

Fill Cupcake Liners: Divide the batter evenly among the lined cupcake cups, filling each about two-thirds full.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth. Add the milk gradually, mixing until you reach your desired consistency for spreading or piping.

Frost the Cupcakes: Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, frost them with the cream cheese mixture as desired.

Garnish: Optionally, dust the frosted cupcakes with extra matcha powder for an added touch of flavor and color.
