Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

¾ cup unsalted butter, softened

4 large eggs

1 tablespoon orange zest (grated from about 2 oranges)

½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice (from about 2 oranges)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

2 tablespoons orange juice (for glaze)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the orange zest and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the freshly squeezed orange juice. Begin and end with the flour mixture, and mix until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The top should be golden brown.

Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the orange glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice in a small bowl until smooth. If it’s too thick, add more juice to reach your desired consistency.

Once the cake has cooled completely, drizzle the glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
