Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar, packed

3-4 medium navel oranges, peeled and sliced into rounds

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup whole milk

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Zest of 1 orange

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a 9-inch round cake pan, pour the melted butter and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top. Arrange the orange slices decoratively over the sugar, overlapping them as needed.

Make the Cake Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using). In another bowl, mix the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and orange zest.

Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—some lumps are okay.

Pour Over Oranges: Gently pour the batter over the arranged orange slices in the prepared pan, ensuring even coverage.

Bake the Cake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. You may want to check at 30 minutes as ovens vary.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Carefully invert it onto a serving plate, allowing the orange slices to be on top. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Garnish (Optional): You can serve it with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra special treat!
