Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 large onions thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup French bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté onions until golden and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Add minced garlic to the onions and sauté for an additional 2 minutes.
  • In a separate skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Combine caramelized onions, browned beef, beef broth, sour cream, and thyme in a large mixing bowl.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch casserole dish.
  • Mix French bread crumbs with half of the shredded Gruyère cheese and sprinkle over the casserole.
  • Top with the remaining Gruyère cheese.
