Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made pie crust 9-inch
  • 1 lb Italian sausage casings removed
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium onion finely diced
  • 1 bell pepper any color finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes 14 oz
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg beaten for egg wash
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until browned.
  • Add the diced onion and bell pepper, sauté for 3-4 minutes until tender.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  • Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes; season with salt and pepper, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and fold in pepperoni, mozzarella, and half of the Parmesan.
  • Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and pour in the filling.
  • Fold any excess crust over the filling and brush edges with beaten egg.
  • Sprinkle remaining Parmesan on top and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool for 5-10 minutes and garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, serve with a drizzle of olive oil or balsamic glaze.
