Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 large onion finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced to a paste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 2 tablespoons garam masala spice blend
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 can tomato puree or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ΒΌ cup unsalted butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro leaves chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  • Blend yogurt, garlic, ginger, garam masala, turmeric, cumin, cayenne pepper, and salt in a bowl.
  • Marinate chicken pieces in the yogurt mixture for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  • Place diced onion at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Layer marinated chicken over the onions and pour tomato puree on top.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4 hours until chicken is tender.
  • Stir in heavy cream and butter 30 minutes before serving.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt or spices as needed.
  • Serve hot, garnished with cilantro, with rice or naan.

Notes

For a dairy-free option, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream.
