Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

1 cup fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed)

3/4 cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg (for egg wash)

Extra sugar for sprinkling on top (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Incorporate Butter: Add the chilled, cubed butter into the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs with a few larger pea-sized pieces.

Add Blueberries: Gently fold in the fresh blueberries, being careful not to mash them.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and vanilla extract until combined.

Form the Dough: Pour the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture. Stir gently until just combined, being careful not to over-mix. The dough should be slightly sticky.

Shape the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Using a biscuit cutter or a sharp knife, cut out rounds or squares and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg. Brush the tops of the biscuits with the egg wash for a golden finish. If desired, sprinkle a little extra sugar on top for added sweetness.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Allow the biscuits to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack. Serve warm and enjoy!
