Ingredients

1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough, thawed

2 cups walnuts, finely chopped

1 cup almonds, finely chopped

1 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

1 cup honey

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Nut Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine chopped walnuts, chopped almonds, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

Prepare the Phyllo Dough: Carefully unroll the phyllo dough. Cover it with a damp cloth to prevent drying out while you work.

Layer Phyllo Dough: Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush it lightly with butter. Repeat this process, layering a total of 8 sheets.

Add Nut Layer: Spread a third of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.

Continue Layering: Add 4 more sheets of phyllo, each brushed with butter, over the nuts. Repeat the layering process two more times with the remaining nut mixture, butter, and phyllo sheets.

Top Layer: For the top layer, finish with 10 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each layer with melted butter.

Cut Baklava: Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes, ensuring you cut through to the bottom.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.

Prepare Syrup: While the baklava is baking, combine sugar, water, honey, vanilla extract, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Add Syrup to Baklava: Once the baklava is done baking, immediately pour the cooled syrup over it, ensuring even coverage.

Cool and Serve: Allow baklava to cool completely, ideally overnight for the best flavor and texture. Serve at room temperature and enjoy!
