Ingredients

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the elbow macaroni according to package directions until al dente, then drain.
  • Melt the unsalted butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  • Whisk in the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper for about 1 minute.
  • Slowly add the whole milk while whisking until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in 1 ½ cups of cheddar cheese and all the mozzarella until melted.
  • Combine the drained macaroni with the cheese sauce until well coated.
  • Pour into a greased baking dish, top with remaining cheddar and breadcrumbs.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
