Ingredients

6 cups of day-old bread, cubed (preferably brioche or challah)

4 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1/2 cup maple syrup

1 cup mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries), fresh or frozen

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Bread: Place the cubed bread in a large mixing bowl and set aside.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth and well combined.

Combine Bread and Custard: Pour the custard mixture over the cubed bread. Gently fold until all bread pieces are well coated. Allow it to sit for about 15-20 minutes to let the bread absorb the mixture, tossing occasionally.

Add Berries and Nuts: Fold in the mixed berries and chopped walnuts or pecans, if using, ensuring they are evenly distributed.

Prepare Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Pour the bread mixture into the prepared dish, spreading it evenly.

Drizzle with Maple Syrup: Drizzle the maple syrup over the top of the mixture for added sweetness and flavor.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Let the bread pudding cool for about 10 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Enjoy: Serve warm with extra maple syrup or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
